Aprepitant is used for:
Preventing nausea and vomiting associated with certain types of cancer medicines (chemotherapy). It is used in combination with other medicines. It is also used to prevent nausea and vomiting after surgery. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Aprepitant is an antiemetic. It works by blocking certain substances in the brain, which helps to prevent nausea and vomiting.
Do NOT use Aprepitant if:
- you are allergic to any ingredient in Aprepitant
- you are taking astemizole, cisapride, pimozide, or terfenadine
Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.
How to use Aprepitant :
Use Aprepitant as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.
- An extra patient leaflet is available with Aprepitant . Talk to your pharmacist if you have questions about this information.
- Take Aprepitant by mouth with or without food.
- Do not start Aprepitant if you already have nausea or vomiting before you take it. Tell your doctor.
- The first dose is usually taken 1 hour before chemotherapy treatment. On the following days, Aprepitant is taken usually once daily in the morning, or as directed by your doctor. It is important to follow your doctor's instructions for the timing of each dose and for the length of treatment.
- If you miss a dose of Aprepitant , contact your doctor immediately.
